Twelfth Night. by William Shakespeare.

Directed by Andy Rimmer

One of Shakespeare's popular comedies, this is a play about complications and mistaken identities.

Abi Taziker played a very competent Viola/Cesario, taking on the identity of the twin brother she supposed had drowned. She was able to depict the nuances of male/female role extremely well. As Sebastian her brother, Nick Moore looked the part but had a tendency to rush his lines which resulted in some loss of dialogue.

Nick Heritage was a superb Feste and played the comedy to perfection, including having a very melodious singing voice, which enhanced his performance. Tony Long and Peter Sawyer as Sir Toby and Sir Andrew respectively were both skilled and added to the comedy. However, by cutting the duel between Cesario and Sir Andrew, a great opportunity was missed for the humorous element. Graham Sinclair Jones was a superb Malvolio, able to elicit the sympathy of the audience as well as their laughter at his outrageous antics. John Poole played the lovelorn Orsino and Julia Roitt made a delightful Olivia.

The very cleverly crafted set added to the atmosphere of the play and the lighting enabled the scenes to change without any change of set. The costumes were sumptuous and a splendid performance on the lute by Edward Fitzgibbon aided what was a very professional evening.

Shakespeare is not easy for amateurs to perform but the Thame Players offered a capital evening's entertainment.
