Cracking Cryptics
Tony Long has been solving cryptic crosswords for well over 60 years – he estimates around 20,000 of them in all.  He has also been compiling them for half that time and still provides the regular cryptic crossword for Chiltern View magazine.  He has developed a fascinating illustrated talk that explains the mysteries of these puzzles.  In it he gives his three golden rules and goes through the ten different types of clue that will be encountered, from anagrams to synonyms.  He starts with the history of the cryptic crossword and ends with helpful tips on ways to solving them.  Along the way there are dozens of examples of clues and how they can be solved.  Cracking Cryptics is a must for all crossword fans – from the novice to the aficionado - or simply for those who simply want to find out what the fuss is all about.
